Message from Dr Kim Hames MLA, Deputy Premier of Western Australia

I join with all Western Australians in congratulating Princess Margaret Hospital for Children on reaching its centenary. The wonderful contribution the hospital and its people have made to the children of our State cannot be overstated.

Treating around 300,000 children and teenagers each year, this unique facility provides a full range of general and sub-specialty medical and surgical services for newborns, infants, children and adolescents from all over the State.

It is my pleasure to be able to contribute to the next one hundred years.

Message from Michelle Scott, Commissioner for Children and Young People

As the first Commissioner for Children and Young People in Western Australia, I take great pleasure in congratulating Princess Margaret Hospital for Children in reaching its 100th year of providing child and adolescent health care services to the WA community.

Every child has the right to receive the best health care possible, and access information and services that helps them to stay well.

PMH has led the way in providing hospital care, delivering health care programs and services and promoting preventative health measures to improve the wellbeing of children and young people across the State.

To staff and volunteers, your contribution over the past century has been remarkable. Well done and best wishes for the centenary celebrations and for many more years to come.

Message from Professor Fiona Stanley AC, Director of Telethon Institute for Child Health Research

Over the past 100 years, Princess Margaret Hospital for children has made an outstanding contribution to the care of children from all over our State. It has a special place in the hearts of all WA families, but especially for those whose children have attended the hospital for severe conditions and have experienced the level of care and professionalism first hand. I think this is particularly true for many Aboriginal families from regional and remote locations who have trusted PMH to heal their children and return them safe to their communities.

Of course, it's not the building that makes PMH special but the attitude and professionalism of the people who work there. It has a fine tradition of producing very dedicated doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and support staff who are dedicated to using their skills for the health and wellbeing of children.

Message from Anne Bourke, Acting Executive Director of Princess Margaret Hospital

The Centenary of Princess Margaret Hospital for Children is a time for celebration but also a time for reflection. I would like to acknowledge the legacy left to us by those who have gone before.

Families, volunteers and staff, many of whom have remained involved with the hospital throughout their lives; some for generations, have all made an immeasurable contribution to PMH. Many continue to do so, and to them we offer our sincere thanks.

As we look forward to the challenges of the next one hundred years, we reaffirm our priority to continue to provide high quality paediatric health care to the children of Western Australia.

Message from Lisa Scaffidi, Lord Mayor of Perth

I am delighted to offer my congratulations to Princess Margaret Hospital, its staff and supporters on the occasion of its Centenary.

This iconic hospital was originally the Perth Children's Hospital. The changes during the past one hundred years could not have been imagined by the people who contributed to its foundation. It is now recognised as a centre of excellence in the area of child health and is an asset, of which we, as Western Australians can be justly proud.

I look forward with great interest, to the challenges and successes of the future as the staff at PMH care for our children.

Message from Ken Wyatt AM, Director of Aboriginal Health

Princess Margaret Hospital's Centenary reminds us all of the unique care this organisation offers to the Aboriginal children and families of Western Australia.

I know of many cases, including that of my own family where the outstanding treatment given by staff has been critical to the survival of our children.

I am deeply grateful for the excellent care given to newborn and young Aboriginal children from across Western Australia who have required specialist and emergency treatment.

May I offer my personal congratulations to all staff, volunteers and those who care specifically for our Indigenous children, as they plan for the next one hundred years of high quality paediatric care for all the children of Western Australia.
