Each site has a Hospital Transfusion Committee (HTC). The main objective of the HTC is to promote the highest standard of transfusion practice and to promote discussion and dialogue between all staff involved in the transfusion process. The HTC reports to the medical advisory committee.

The HTC is charged with the review of:

  • Clinical Transfusion Practice (based on National Guidelines e.g. NHMRC/ASBT Guidelines)
  • Performance of the hospital transfusion service.
  • Performance of the Australian Red Cross Blood Service as provider
  • Legal implications of transfusion practice.
