Starlight brightens the lives of seriously ill children and their families, by replacing pain, fear and stress with fun, joy and laughter.
Starlight supports children, adolescents, and their families regardless of illness, injury or age.
In 2013, Starlight supported nearly 136,000 seriously ill children, adolescents, and their families.
Since its establishment in 1988, Starlight has expanded to become the broadest-reaching children’s charity in Australia.
Every minute of every day a child is admitted to hospital across Australia.
Uniquely Australian, Captain Starlight and the Starlight Express Rooms were developed to complement the Australian healthcare system in partnership with leading Australian health professionals, and exist nowhere else in the world.
Starlight Express Rooms provide a medical-free respite for sick kids and their families, and Captain Starlights.
While health professionals focus on treating illness, Captain Starlight captures a child’s imagination and turns their pain, fear and stress into joy, fun and laughter.
Livewire is the vital adolescent support program run by Starlight Children’s Foundation.
Livewire provides peer-to-peer emotional support and positive distraction to seriously ill and disabled teens, and their visiting family and friends, around Australia.
Livewire runs seven days a week at Princess Margaret Hospital and the types of activities and workshops led by facilitators include: photography, culinary activities, celebrity visits, music workshops and multi-media.
