Paediatric Nursing Practice Manual

The PNPM is produced to guide clinical and nursing practice at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children (PMH). The aim of this manual is to facilitate the care of paediatric and adolescent patients; to promote best practice and limit variations in practice; and to help ensure an optimum standard of paediatric health care.

The information presented in this manual is provided in good faith as a public service. The information and research is derived from sources believed to be reliable and accurate at the time of publication. The assessment and use of the information contained in this manual is the responsibility of the user. Individuals and health services relying on this information will be responsible for assessing the appropriateness of use in the particular patient circumstances. PMH and the Child and Adolescent Health Service do not accept any liability for its use or modification by external agencies or individuals.

The PNPM documents are based on the best available evidence, expert opinion from various disciplines and where possible formulated by a consensus of opinion. They are authorised for publication via the Paediatric Nursing Practice Committee. In accordance with this process the documents do not necessarily represent the views of all of the nurses or disciplines at PMH.

It is essential that users of the manual ensure they are accessing the most up to date version of the PNPM to ensure best available information is obtained.
