In response to your feedback, the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) Pharmacy department is making some significant changes to how we do business.

In mid-2014, PMH will commence participation in the national Pharmaceutical Benefit Scheme (PBS). This will enable PMH doctors to write prescriptions that can be dispensed both at the PMH pharmacy dispensary and community pharmacies. This means that you will have more options around medication availability and the convenience of using your local pharmacy. This also means that the PMH pharmacy dispensary will no longer be storing prescriptions.

In the coming months, prescriptions that have not been previously collected will be returned to you by mail. From 17th March 2014, the PMH pharmacy dispensary will no longer accept prescriptions from clinics on behalf of patients. Please note, however, that there are exceptions to this which include some schedule 8 prescriptions and pre-arranged postal prescriptions for eligible patients. Prescriptions can still be pre-ordered by:

  • Faxing a copy to 08 9340 7190
  • Emailing a copy to PharmacyDispensary.PMH@health.wa.gov.au or
  • Posting the prescription to the Dispensary in advance:
    Pharmacy Department
    Princess Margaret Hospital
    GPO Box D184
    PERTH WA 6840
  • You will need to provide us with:
    • Your full name
    • Daytime phone number
    • Child's full name
    • Child's date of birth
    • Child's hospital number (if known)
  • Handing the original prescriptions to pharmacy dispensary staff
  • Please remember to provide the details of when you will be collecting medications to dispensary staff AND to allow three working days (seven working days if posted) to ensure prescriptions are dispensed and ready for collection AND that the original prescription is be presented on collection.

Please ensure that you bring your child’s script with you so the Pharmacist can ensure the correct medicine has been prepared and can complete the dispensing process. Please note that if the original prescription is not presented then the pharmacist will be unable to provide the medication.
